You should also check studies by Harbor Medical (in Seattle?) done several
years ago as to where injuries occurred and type. Around here all injuries
beyond a Band-Aid go the trauma center. If assessment indicates the ER is
sufficient while enroute they go down the hall. If there is any indication
that there might be need of multiple services they go to trauma which is
physically located next to radiology, the CAT and MRI scanners and the OR.
Head injuries tend to go to trauma for a look see first.
Similarly, it was found that with fighter pilots there were two bands of
risk, first 10 missions and last missions. Many very experienced pilots
were lost on their last or nearly last mission due to overconfidence and
short timer syndrome. The early band was a Una indicates-- lack of
experience with a deadly situation.
