James, I don't think it is the gate SPECIFICALLY that is a MUST, but rather
the collective skills needed to do so as mentioned in several posts already,
the whoa, the lateral and diagonal movement, the pivots and being able to do
all this under FULL control of the rider while either pushing or being
followed by something, ie the gate.
