Thanks for all the advice. I put my onions
in pint boxes, which weighed a between three-quarters and a pound, and sold the
regular red and yellow onions (fairly small bulbs this year) for $2.50 and the
cipollini for $3.50. I don’t have lots of either, and we eat a lot over
the winter, so I’m not desperate to be rid of them. The cips sold quite
well, the others not so much, but other growers were selling them cheaper, and
we were the only one with the cips, as far as I could see. Our market is a producer-only community

[mailto:market-farming-bounces AT lists.ibiblio.org] On Behalf Of Richard Stewart I grow yellows mainly and do so from sets. I have had poor result
from direct seeding in the fall but continue to try. I sell directly to restaurants.
I do high density rows (where the set sets are nearly in contact with
each other) and thin and sell as green onions at 2.50 a pound and then pull and
dry onions all the while selling them direct to chefs till I run out. My
dried yellow onions are being bought for 2.50 a pound green or dried. I
do not sell any at market. I am also in the Richard Stewart Carriage House Farm An (513) 967-1106 No virus found in this incoming message.
