Boron extends pollen life.  Maybe weak pollen due to boron deficiency?  Boron leaches
easily from the soil and we need to consciously be adding a little.

Honeybees need nectar with a brix of at least 5.  If your plants are low brix then the nectar
won't be sweet enough for them.  Native bumblebees are not as fussy
and 250 mason bees do the pollination of 150,000 honeybees and work in all kinds of weather.

Whats the key to accomodating the honey bee and still saving the crop from the striped cucumber beetle.
 
Few bees(all bumble)  here so the parthenocarpic (seedless) cukes work best for me,
