Usually it is poor pollination. Honeybees are good pollinators only because
of numbers. Many native bees do a better job individually, such as squash
bees, but they just don't have the huge populations that honeybees provide.
If you're growing cucurbit vegetables you should do everything you can to
ensure there are lots of bees. It won't just boost production. It'll boost
quality too.
