Shade paints, available from greenhouse supply
companies, are the old timey way
of keeping down temps inside. Depending on location
and climate an application
or two per season is generally enough. The bigger
the building the more serious the
equipment for spraying gets. On those old glass
houses that were rough as a cob
with nails, glass clips, and broken glass it was
much easier to spray than to try to drag
cloth over.
Shade cloth is cheaper over time, simple to pull
over poly houses, more uniform
in its result. Cloth over any vent opening will
reduce the air flow, houses with vents
at the ridge will run cooler if the cloth is
suspended on wires a few feet above ridge
height.
