Those are definitely legitimate concerns, particularly industrial chemicals. The pesticides from other stream-side farms are probably not an issue unless they came from bulk tanks or storage facilities, where you have large volumes of undiluted materials. Anything sprayed on field would be very dilute from the application to begin with, then further diluted by the huge volumes of water, most of which carried the toxins away. You may be able to get data from local officials who are responsible for environmental monitoring, which could tell you about the toxins and how much was in the water. I suspect a state or Federal EPA office is the lead agency who could provide that data.

Probably, the greater concern would be the transport and deposit of non-organic residues from neighboring farms and industrial sites. Luckily, our small tributary river doesn't have industrial sites along it. But there are certainly many non-organic farms, with extensive *cide use upstream from us.
