This is interesting. It's exactly what we do when we plant, but because
Paul observed that it worked better when we did. Glad to know that
we're on the right track!

Here's something I learned from an Isreali drip engineer. the first time
you use the system each year (don't use it till you need it!), Turn it
on and leave it on overnight. You won't over water. You're just fully
saturating the irrigation zone. Then, each time you water, you're
replacing what was used. The alternative is that you are continually
trying to catch up. You can't see the roots, but they're struggling
against a "dry front" unless you have full saturation to begin with.
