Here in Colorado we are rapidly approaching plant out date for tomatoes,
etc. However, I am late in getting my transplants ready to sell (for
too many reasons to whine about). Other vendors at our market have
been selling for a couple weeks -- counseling customers on frost protection
of course. Customers are asking where are our transplant.
I've got 50 varieties of heirloom tomatoes lots of peppers and several
eggplant. The plants are anywhere from about 2" to 4" tall, very healthy,
good strong stems, no stretching, but roots have not filled the 2.5" SVD
pot. Maybe some will by this weekend, but many won't. I
need to get in the game or customers will be buying elsewhere. If I
brought them to market, what would you suggest that I tell customers?
Let them keep growing in the pot till the plant is more rooted
in?
Go ahead and transplant when ever you want, but be gentle?
Truth in marketing....Should I put up some sort of sign indicating that the
plants may not be fully rooted in the pot?
Or should I just wait and miss the early season shoppers?
Sheila
P.S. As I was hoeing some bind weed yesterday, I was remembering the
posts about getting it when young. As best I can tell, that gives you
about a 48 hour window to catch it while young....that darn stuff grows a foot
overnight I think. Geez!
