That is the thing about being in a democracy instead of a monarchy or dictatorship-we the people have a say in these bills. Anyone from Ct should contact Ms Delauro and tell her that certain parts of the bill need a re-write so it is clear that small farmers, the organic program and farmers markets are not going to be touched by this bill. This bill will not be going to a vote as it now stands, it will be changed as it goes through committee and discussion. when that starts to happen than it is time to contact all the bill's sponsors and let them know you do not like the wording of this bill and why and what you would like it to say. If enough people do this it will be changed to a form we can deal with.

Agreed. The FDA regulates most packaged food production regardless of whether or not it is sold across state lines. Many small farmers ignore this and sell regulated product either ignorantly or blatantly illegally, but if you are making a jar of pickles and selling it without proper FDA oversight you are breaking the law and believe it or not, portions of the Patriot Act. As small farmers we are constantly bombarded by government regulation that threatens our very livelihood. For a humorous take on the vast overstepping of a government run amuck check out Joel Salatin’s book Everything I Want To Do Is Illegal: War Stories From the Local Food Front. Even if this bill is not meant to put small farmers out of business, I can assure you that as written it will be used by some regulator/enforcer in the future to do exactly what people on this and other sites are worried about.
