It does not sound like anthracnose if you have dead and alive berries on the
same cane. Could some chemical insecticides or sprays have floated to your
berries?
The Encyclopedia of Natural Insect and Disease Control states the following:
"Anthracnose, a fungal disease ...is a major enemy of blackberries. The
most serious damage is to the stems of the fruit and to the berries, which
wither early...Anthracnose is best controlled by careful sanitation
practices. Remove old canes after fruiting...discard any showing gray bark
lesions...wild raspberries are usually heavily infected...Avoid planting
anthracnose prone plants near your blackberries: this includes beans,
cucumbers, grapes, sweet peas,"
In our zone 6 area, black raspberries are so susceptible to this disease
that no one continues to raise them for selling. Lime sulphur applied during
the canes' dormant period is the best prevention for anthracnose. We are so
thankful for Heritage red raspberries.
We have a blogspot, but it does not refer to anthracnose.

The canes and leaves seem healthy. There are dead and alive berries on the
same cane sometimes. I really don't have a clue what's going on. I will
say, there's a fair amount of dead canes from last year, but the new ones
from the roots look great. I just chalked it up to freeze and being the
first year's growth. This really dry, harsh, hot, windy country, does this
disease affect vines in dry country or does it pick on states like Arkansas?
Do you have a web site that talks about it, with pictures - I love pictures.
