So what?
Would it not be true of almost all households, not just farm households,
that two incomes are required to sustain the standard of living? Yet no
one says being a carpenter is not a viable living because the husband
also has to go out to work as a teacher. Farming should be evaluated
based on the income of those that are involved in the operation, which
is problematic enough as it is. The 'household' issue is only relevant
if both partners are involved in the business and then it becomes a
question of the viability of the farm business structure.
