The Long Island Cheese pumpkins are another example of the Cucurbita
moschata group, like the Libbys pie pumpkins.
>I have yet to try it yet, but the chef I grow for requested Long Island
Cheese Pumpkins to use at the restaurant. The plants were enourmous and
healthy all season long and produced well in a year when much of my other
winter squash did really poorly with all the rain. They look like pumpkins,
but have a dark 'butternut' color. I am planning on cooking one tomorrow,
so I'll report on how it tastes. Has anyone else grown these?
