Willie, Im the wrong guy to ask because I don't grow it commercially on my
farm, for me its just for the kitchen garden. My state is fifth nationwide
in asparagus acreage yet I see a lot in the market from CA. Prices
wholesale are around $1 a pound at the auction markets in NJ and southern
PA it selling for $1.50-1.75 lb. I don't know what its selling for
retail. Most of my neighbors grow it flat and mow down the old stalks
early in the spring then disc it in very shallow. There is no shortage of
good herbicides for weed control most are very persistent. Did you add oil
to the Poast?. perennial grasses need multiple applications to get control.
BTW My asparagus patch got started by accident, I dumped a load of manure
in a big pile in the field and let it rot only to find asparagus's growing
out of it, so I leave it be and its been producing better every year now
for 17 years... Bob.
