> firewood.. Bob.(asparagus season full tilt)
Bob, talk to us about how ya'll manage asparagus, por favor.
I have mine (about 2 ac) planted in beds (5' center to center)
which I occasionally hill and try to cultivate. I must say that I am
chronically behind. I hear that many grow it flat and disk just before
it is time for the spears to appear. I try to burn it during the
winter and herbicide it a week or two before spears appear. After the
harvest season, I Poast it, but bermuda and Johnson grass survives.
Here in central Texas, our asparagus is winding down; we've been
picking since February. We have some Purple Passion which we find
sells slowly at a premium price. We retail almost all of ours at $2
per half pound for green and $2.50 for purple.
Blackberry season is poised to start.
