When I was a kid I visited my uncle's place in N.
Carolina while they still grew tobacco. When harvest came - and they had certain
criteria of harvesting the right leaves- they would put them on a wooden kind of
rack that had rows then that was hung in a special barn like a smoke house. They
aged with no light coming in for a couple of months without anything being added
untill the leaf had achieved the right cure which was supposed to take a
considerable amount of knowledge to know. Then the leaves would be bundled and
sold in auction.
