I like the purple varieties... gee there seem to be several options out there in the seed catalogs this year... bush and pole types.
 
Royal Burgundy is one  I had great success with.  Taste great, produced well, easy to pick because you can see the purple.  They freeze well and if they get overgrown, the beans can be shelled and cooked up for a truly tasty dish.  I could never bring enough of them to the market.  Always sold out.
