Farmers in the southern half of our state often aerate the water to remove
the iron. They pump from the well into an open pond, where the water is sent
through a jet fountain. As the water is intensely exposed to air, the iron
precipitates out as iron-oxide. The water becomes safe to use through drip
irrigation.
