Hi Jim & Julie,

That happens to our markets out here, too. We also experience less carry over from events in the Fall.

Has anyone tried a consumer survey for Fall? Why are the folks who are coming still coming. If you know some of your customers are getting more spotty with their attendance find out what keeps them away.

Are you competing with school sports teams for the same time slot? Are folks just too buzy to prepare meals? Who else is having events at the same time? What's happening in surrounding towns? All of these are different ways of asking "who's your competition?

Larry Lev and Garry Stephenson of OSU have a method of using dot charts to survey customers. This method has a big grid with questions running from top to bottom and possible answers acrsoos the top. Customers to the market are given marking dots from the stationary store and asked to mark their answers. This interactive method is less intimidating that the survey taker with a clip board and gets better compliance than self-filled paper surveys. If either of the guys are lurking, maybe they could chime in on this.
