- Subject: losing chickens, feeding too much?
- Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2001 06:08:13 -0500
We have lost almost 20% of our first batch of
Cornish Cross. They seem to be dying of what is called here flip.
Basically they blow an artery and bleed out I guess. Anyway, we are still
new to chickens and this is only our second batch. Last year, we started
out not feeding them enough, but only lost about 5 out of 115. This year
we have already lost 8 out of 50 with two weeks to go before processing.
Could we now be feeding them too much and need to back off some? We
wondered if they were eating to much and outgrowing their little hearts
etc.
Any suggestions or observations are
appreciated.
