Pelleted seed became popular back in the seventies as the stanhay seeded
became
the standard in precession planters and when the greenhouse plug industry was
born, from the start we noticed a drop in germination percentage, what
happened
was the coatings would absorb moisture without letting in oxygen and the seed
would rot, some coats would not split and many seeds need light to germinate
and
could not start until the coating melted away, we solved this in the
greenhouse by
surface seeding then misting a couple days to dissolve the coating, today
there is
very little coated seed sold since we have very accurate raw seed planters in
the
field and the greenhouse...
