I wasn't going to say anything, since I'm kind of an old "newbie", but
can't resist.
I gardened with my parents for as long as I can remember, like before
I started school. We had 3 - 5 acres in garden always, plus an orchard.
After I got married, the garden plot expanded. Dad would work the
ground, I'd work the garden and my husband and the rest of the family
would eat the results. :-)
Then I went to work in a factory for a year, which ended up being
21 years. First, I quit milking 5 cows by hand night and morning, then
the calves, pigs and finally chickens "went". My husband wouldn't
work the farm and the kids needed an adult with them to keep
them interested. And, the kids grew up. :-/ Finally, the garden
became the neighbor's garden. I couldn't live that way any more.
I quit the very, very high salaried job so I could be on the farm
again.
Now, I feel real rusty and soooo out of what's happening
farm and garden wise. Hubby #2 built me a small greenhouse.
And this year I plan to have at least an acre in an fm garden.
I appreciate all the help this list has been and will continue
to be. Thank you so much.
