Lawrence et al,

When we first sarted out, we used a 10 hp BCS. The plow attachment helped
us create beds. As we got more than an acre under cultivation, and wanted
to use cover crops to improve the soil, we graduated to a tractor and
Spader.

Now, we have a 27mhp tractor with 23hp at pto and use a Falc Panda spader
to create raised beds. We run the wheels in the same track from year to
year so we preserve the tilth in the beds. The spader turns covercrop and
incorporates soil amendments and compost. Our beds are 3 ft wide (39" at
the base) and 75 feet long. Everything else is done by hand.

We found this was human scale for our farm. 3 foot beds allow you to reach
well into the center when harvesting or transplanting, and half a 75 foot
bed is about all the longer any worker will walk without feeling the need
to cut across the bed.
