We are in the same position - markets are over and still lots of produce in the field.
Today the gleaners are coming and will harveste many hundreds of pounds to take to various foodbanks around the state. Yesterday I picked about 500 pounds of beautiful green bell peppers - the summer ones were small because of the heat, but these fall ones are huge, but there is no time for them to color up - freeze expected tonight. And of course there is no market now for green bells. Ah, the joys of farming.
Food banks need good fresh produce, so if your fields are full and your season is over please give them a call.

We still have lots of unripe and green tomatoes that will never get picked or eaten; the extra freezer is full now, with more sweet peppers with no place to go. Our appreciative, constant customers will have neither variety till next summer. So with too much wind to start the winter work I've started going through some books again, Rodale's 1969 Best Ideas for Organic Vegetable Growing, Sheperd Ogden's 1992 Step By Step Organic Vegetable Gardening, and Eliot Coleman's1989 New Organic Grower. So much still to learn, so little time.
