I did a bit of googling on these critters in Colombia and it turns out a
couple of the major universities and at least one biotech firm are working
with them. As the biotech is in Bogota at +/- 2600 meters they could be a
really good source of information. Two of the the universities are here in
Medellin.
Has anyone seen data on using this species for human wastes. Some of the
sites I have seen so far hint at it. One mentions the use of a urine
diverting mechanism. I don't know it they were referring to a human or
livestock loop. It seems that one would want to be very careful using the
larvae produce in this manner as part of a human food cycle. Sounds like
there would be a potential for the transmission of bacteria and virus in say
a human-soldier fly-chicken-human loop.
