There should be some good deals on used pickups now.  Those folks that didn't need pickups are anxious to unload them.  It may take some effort to find a basic model, but it should be possible.  Strike a deal with the owner and drive it only when necessary.

We have two '70s vintage pickup trucks paid for, terrible MPG but only used for gathering soil amendments etc. close by. Others aren't so lucky and must make payments on farm pickups nobody wants on a trade in.

What do people do when they need that pickup but can't afford the payments, or worse have the pickup (and payments) and can't afford the gas?
