I don't think that algae is a silver bullet BUT the prices of gas are way up and another video from UC said that some of the higher production estimates of the cost of biofuel from algae would be $60 a barrel.  There are other benefits such as using waste water and high nitrogen water from agriculture to grow algae.

Bad press creates mindset.  You say " Get Big Or Get Out"  What's that? It's mindset created by money, Mansanto, Oil.   The point is if we are going to go to sustainable systems our mindset and the mindset of the average person has to be focused on , " Small is beautiful"  and " Sustainable is beautiful"

I think the reason biofuel and fertilizer from algae has not done anything in the market is because it's not part of the Big Oil economy.  Slowly some big oil companies are getting on board and getting in because Green is becoming popular.  There has also been a lot more research currently. Algae's that are better oil producers are being developed  as well as systems for making biofuels  I'm keeping my mind open with hope.  Anna

I looked at the video. Yet the principles of algae producing fuel have been known for decades, and it's been researched long before recent "bad press" about biofuels. It just hasn't turned out to be practical financially. If it had the potential to be the silver bullet, investors would be trampling each other to get into it. Cyanobacteria may someday prove more practical, but not yet. Always, the ultimate answer is powering down this society.
