Agreed. To block adding third-party apps isn't a ripoff, just a missed opportunity, and I'm sure they're aware of it.

I gather the iPhone runs a "limited" version of OS X, but no doubt there will plenty of people trying to push the envelope. Time will tell what's really possible here.
