A yankee is defined as someone from a union state. They fought
agin' us in the waw-a. It can also be used as a description of
anyone with a funny accent, normal people will know what you mean.
I'm surprised y'all didn't learn this in school.
A Yankee (note the uppercase Y) is someone from the New England
states. We don't hate them since they are sort of quaint like us.
When I was growing up in western NC, the worst thing someone
could call you was a yankee faggot. You could get killed for using
that phrase and it wasn't especially due to the faggot part.
