It all depends on what you are getting for the price. I had my heat pump replaced in December. I'm not home at the moment, so I can't go out to check the size rating on it, but it was sized for a 2000 sq ft house. With only the outside unit replaced (and not the air handler), the cost was $1500. It was not SEER 13, but SEER 10, I believe.

Now you may ask why only SEER 10? To get a higher rating, the inside air handler would have to be replaced as well as all the piping. I think that cost was going to be around $3000 or so. Since we usually keep the temperature at 75 to 80, the AC isn't on enough to justify the cost difference.

If you're interested, I can locate the name of the guy who installed it. He's an independent and did an admirable job.

My previous heat pump was serviced by Lee. I wasn't too happy with the way that they handled the last problem, which caused me to have to get a new outside unit.

I'd like to make sure the price sounds reasonable.

Trane RX12  SEER 13  9.50 HSBP  1.5 ton -> $ 4,250.00 installed

This estimate is for one unit only, (two would be double that), and does not
include any repiping at all, which would add about $1,000 to $1,200 to the
estimate.

Is this too high, or is it fair?
