I was a mac developer for about 10 years. I didn't realize how useful the command line could be to a programmer until i went to work at IBM in 1995, and had to use OS/2 and then windoz. I'd used command lines on Apple II and mainframes, but not very much. I should have had a clue when Apple released their Macintosh Programmers Workshop (MPW), way back in the day, that gave developers a unix-like command line to work with. However, it was fairly expensive, and I didn't 'grok' it.
I've been using Linux for my development platform for about five years now - and as soon as I get a job, I'm going to start looking around for a used Macintosh G4 (<licking-lips>or if i get a *really* good job, a dual G5 with 2GB RAM</licking-lips> ) - I've used OSX on and off for the past few years, and it's very sweet.

the best thing is, IMHO, the coexistence between the command line and GUI and GUI-ish Apple software...namely, AppleScript, and through it just about everything Apple makes. I can ssh in and through the "osascript" command, issue AppleScript commands to do various useful and useless things (like make the computer talk >:) )
i think that the existence of a command line doesn't make a good GUI impossible at all....
if memory serves me right, there was even a /. story a while back about command lines being easier for completely new users to learn than GUIs

With OS X you really do get the same command lines as Unix, and the
best GUI as well.
I agree...
