Hey, I'm a sub-contractor. Or to be more precise, a sub-sub-contractor :) I
don't have any sick time, nor does the corporation play for my health
insurance.
Before I got stuck with project management responsibilities, I would usually
stay at home when I got sick ... there was usually work I could do at home.
Lately, we've been too under-resourced for me to even think about staying
home unless I was really incapacitated.
Regarding the six hour day ... Long, long ago, as I finished an
undergraduate degree as a working adult, it was very clear to me that all I
could easily manage was six full hours of intellectual work. I definitely
can do more now, but I see no reason to advocate such folly :)
K.

| There are a number of reasons for going to work sick:
| a) Why the hell would I want to waste my precious paid time off on
| being sick?
| b) If I'm going to be miserable, I'm going to work where it seems
| more natural.
| c) There are more people to complain to in the office.
| d) The bastards at work probably gave me the crud anyway so why
| not return it to them.
| e) I actually get a lot done when I am sick since I usually don't
| seem as hyper and I concentrate on one thing at a time.
| f) If I stay home, I'll VPN to the office anyway so I am still at
| work even if I am home.
