Note that I am not a lawyer (nor play one on TV), but I believe the DCMA
allows for a backup copy of music cds to be made under the "Fair Use"
clause. While this particular case would be having someone making a backup
for you after the fact, it may still be legal--especially since you have the
original packages.

I looked at some CD packages I have, and while they do not say you can make
a backup, they say "unauthorized copying is prohibited." This suggests there
are forms of copying that are authorized.
