I agree...

In my opinion, though, if you're going to buy an apple, buy whatever it is you want and don't worry about it.

Honestly -- I'm a mm designer, who puts a lot of stress on his machine (crunch through video editing/encoding, 3d animation, graphic design, and web development all in one night, on one HD, then play some high end games, then do some beta testing, blah blah blah). I'm running an older G4 tower (dual 450 chips, 256 ram, 16mb vid card).

I've upgraded the OS with every stable release of osX, and download and install most new software that comes out that I'm remotely interested in (apple users, if you haven't seen konfabulator, it's some pretty cool crap--go take a look @ http://konfabulator.com), including the new and awesome iTunes4.

And guess what? My mac is still humming along, pretty as you please, and still smoking some of the newer PC's my friends have bought.

Unless it's extremely important to you that you have the latest and greatest of all technology available, I wouldn't freaking worry about what Apple is about to do. As long as you buy an Apple, you'll be highly likely to enjoy it for at least the next few years...at least, IMHO....

Amidst all the rumors, and the fact that I am a diehard Apple supporter, I
must say your safer with the powerbook right now. I believe at the WWDC we
will see new towers with the IBM 970 chip. I don't give ant credit to the
AMD rumors as IBM is manufacturing some of the Operton chips for them. Buy
yourself a big 'ol 17 and have fun till' the new powerbooks arrive next
year sometime.
