I have a taboo comment myself: I am so tired of the 24/7 space
shuttle coverage. Give it a rest!

Forgive me, but I am underwhelmed by the shuttle disasterIt is very
sad, tragic. The people who died were extremely capable, dedicated,
intelligent. But I feel like the media is overreacting to the
extreme.

Perhaps it goes to the way space travel has become more commonplace,
and therefore a crash like this is less extraordinary for me. The
Challenger explosion affected me deeply. Perhaps that is why, after
18 or so years, a second such loss seems less significant. Perhaps
after the magnitude of the 9/11 attacks, an incident like this seems
rather small to evoke a media response of similar magnitude. And
perhaps the prospect of another war, after last year's war, really
dwarfs this incident in my imagination.

Our news media has a bad penchant for seizing on the sensational and
amplifying the event. The bigger the event, the bigger the
pathos/bathos. Perspective is entirely absent from news coverage.
I'm sick of it.
