short description time here.

democracy = majority rules, govt by voting. a "true" democracy would be
where every decision got voted on by ALL the people. the US was
originally set up as a Constitutional republic, which is basically
representatives voting in the place of the people, with certain checks &
balances in the Constitution to protect the rights of minorities, as
well as the rights of the people who elect the representatives. Ahem.

socialism involves state ownership of means of production, in the name
of the people. it is more an economic system than a governmental system.
**capitalism** is the "opposite" of socialism, not democracy. This is
why you hear of so many "social(ist) democrat" parties in Europe. It is
the rough opposite of saying "capitalist republican" here in the US.

The US is most definitely NOT moving toward a socialist state. The
government not only does not own much of the means of production in this
country, but also everything under the sun that used to be considered
the legitimate realm of public-owned & funded good is getting privatized
and "capitalized," from who "owns" the water to what food your kids get
in schools. Meanwhile the power of the people is being diminished in
the interests of a ruling elite - a Roman-style plutocratic "republic"
with representatives representing only the powerful. We are also moving
away from our Constitutionalism, with the govt weakening Constitutional
protections across the board.

Perhaps akin to Capitalist-Communism as practiced in China, but most
definitely not socialism.

The shift towards Socialism isn't what's eroding
our freedoms.

It's the shift towards Fascist Nationalism that's
more worrysome.

I think you might be confusing Socialism with
Communism...

They're not the same thing...
