Heard about this bill on the radio on the way to work today. It seems to go
with our recent discussion on telemarketers...

Cooper, Lawmakers Tout Telemarketing Restrictions
North Carolinians could keep telemarketers at bay under legislation proposed
today by Attorney General Roy Cooper.

Bills filed in the House and Senate would establish a central "no-call
registry," allowing people to put their name on the list if they didn't want
telemarketers calling them.

Residents could sign up to be added to the central list by Internet, mail or
telephone. Once someone signs up, telephone solicitors would be required to
remove the person from their calls lists as they are updated every 90 days.

Charitable organizations would not be affected by the restrictions.

Twenty other states have no-call lists, and several others are considering
similar laws.
