This happened to one of our county supervisors. They ended up finding him when they arrested "a man" for drunk in public. Turned out to be our supervisor who had been wandering around in this, I guess you could call it, haze.

I think all police forces should have seminars on this. More and more folks have diabetes and more and more people have neuro disorders that cause these Alzheimerish symptoms where they "wander" off.

Step one on any of these should be the SAR dogs because police dogs simply are not all that well trained. Heck my Keeshond bitch that was a week from whelping beat the police dogs in two of the training classes! I really wish they'd stop using the police dogs and go straight to the SARs dogs who are REALLY trained to actually find people.

Yeah, When they found his truck on Thursday afternoon (day 2), they called in the police K-9 units, but found nothing. Because no evidence of foul play has been found, the police have not authorized further organizations with dogs to search, and the family apparently cannot afford it. Today is day 8, and since it rained heavily on day 6 and 7, it wouldn't work now anyway. Most organizations with SAR dogs operate at the request of the police OR are brought in by the family. Keith's case seems to be falling through the cracks due to, IMO, a lack of understanding about labile diabetes. I know I am learning a lot about this condition. Alzheimers, everyone knows, but diabetes?? We only think we know..
