Oh, yes. The damned utility has spent zip on infrastructure and line
maintenance since it took over Appalachian Power (which itself was no paragon
of business model). Last winter in that week long + power failure, a
grandmother white pine fell on the line at the crossroads near here. When
they finally came to repair it, they had to cross a 15' wide stream (Harper's
Creek). They could have walked up the road about 1500 feet where the creek
crosses to the other side of the road and walked back down the neighbor's
clean hayfield, but noooo. They spent three hours positioning the bucket
truck so that they could hoist the workers over the stream and set them down
on the other side.

Oh well, the rates are really good. But by the powers, it's almost as if
they were looking in the window of my shop. 80% of what I do requires no
electricity but on the very day we'd plan on milling pins or resawing planks,
that's when the power would go out for a week. Just gotta plan ahead more, I
guess.
