Rob; where will you buy the scythe? I'm also looking for one, and scythesupply.com is the only place I can find, and they only sell the straight snath. Johnny's sells a lightweight folding scythe, but I don't know if it's any good....aluminum snath, adjustable wood handles.

IMO a curved snath is far easier to work with.


That's you and Susan saying that. Granddad worked with a curved one
and growing up I never saw a straight one. I'm going with curved.

A grass blade is long. 28" minimum. There are two types of blades, drop
forged and damasked. The drop forged ones are cheaper, usually by far. They
take a keen edge but don't hold it. A damasked blade is lighter, usually
thinner, and is made by hammering together several layers of soft metal with hard
metal. The result is a blade that is easy to hone but keeps an edge for a long
time.


Got it. Better buy on the damasked blade.
