It would work sure enough. But it is probably unnecessary. In the summer
heat, all you have to do is to expose the food to warm air or sunshine and
keep
the bugs off.

Any sort of screen to lay the food on, such as those cheapie needle-point
bases they sell at the craft departments of the marts and then any sort of
cover
to keep the bugs out such as, what is it called?, tule? they sell at the
fabric stores for pennies a yard.

Collecting extra heat would speed things along, but in it is not necessary.
