I don't really have many skills. I have determination and a need to get stuff fixed. I don't have anyone to do any of it for me, except tractor and truck repair. I just have to muddle through. I inherited all my father's woodworking tools (band saw, table saw, table sander, lathe, etc) when he died. He was a carpenter, but never taught my sister and I how to use the tools (he didn't think girls were capable of using any tool beyond a mixer or an oven). I've figured out how to use them and haven't lost any fingers (yet).

Not all of us are as smart as you, Lynn :-). Do you do the stuff in your workshop or do you have a neighbor do that sort of stuff. Every time you mention a different skill, you add an extra notch of repect from me. I still think having a few boxes of different size hose clamps is not a bad idea. Everyone has screws, bolts, nails, etc. Even me. I probably have a few hose clamps, but I have no idea where...................

A well-stocked workshop would have them, and lots of other
stuff....I'm sure
I could dig up a few radiator clamps. I think that's
the difference between
a 'prep list' and a functional homestead. When you
do this and deal with
this life everyday, you tend to know what you might need
and are prepared
for anything. It's not 'survival' or 'prep
list', but 'life'. You can't run
into town everytime you need a washer or a nail, so you
keep plenty on hand.
And save everything you take off a reused board...hinges,
bolts, nuts,
washers...I've got a workshop full of them. I might
spend all day looking
for it, but whatever I need, I have...somewhere.
