Our chickens seem to do o.k. but the guineas, well, we have but one. Dumb, ugly, weird noisy and neurotic creature! And sorry excuses for mothers! Won't do those again.

And, yes, some folks eat them. My neighbor raised them for the stew pot, but
most folks I know raise them to eat ticks.

Speaking of losses, the neighbor just had the predator hunter in because they lost a llama, a couple of sheep and a doe to mountain lions. He killed a young male but didn't get the mother or the other cub.

Bev, there was a farmer in the community of my youth who kept guineas. They were in the edges of his property, not caged at all--they are noisy, and I don't know if they taste good--but they did not seem to have this sort of predation problem. I think he was always trying to lower the numbers. I wonder why they escaped so many of the predators the chickens wouldn't?
