My husband uses this towel trick taught to him by the Chinese med doc:
Fold a bath towel in half lengthwise. Roll it up tightly. Lay on back on
floor (on carpet or a rug better than hardwood) and place towel roll under
your back, as low on your spine as you can stand it, particularly for lower
back issues. Lay on the towel and relax all of your muscles. Begin with a
few minutes and build up to 10 minutes. Roll to your side to get off the
towel.
This opens up the space between your lower vertebrae and does wonders.
