My grandfather, who immigrated from Norway, told me the old vikings used to
make a brine solution and soak wood in the brine as a method of treatment to
prevent termite damage.  I've never researched it, as I don't exactly live
next to a salt mine.

Roxanne, at one time I was reading a lot about cordwood construction. Some of
the 'alternative' builders did a simialr activity. They charrde the
ends of the cordwood in an effort to insect-proof the wood. Other builders
said
it was a stupid idea. I don't know the truth. I thought where you live,
that osage orange was plentiful, cheap and used as fenceposts. Isn't that
stuff insect and rot=proff, naturally?

**** You gave me permission? huh ... 'f-off'. That was fun. 'usually am
not given permission ;-) ; 'just teasing Lynn. I will likely have, soon,
bypass surgery. Doctors and their tests 'do' influence those decisions

I'm anti-doctor, and believe that we each know our health and our bodies
better than they do.

***** Take your blood pressure, otherwise it will be after your first tia or
stroke that you discover the quietness of your body's warning signals. Ray
now knows his normal blood sugar level.. Did he learn that at a check-up or
was it after he passed out or had diabetic seizure in the grocery store or
driving his car? A good doctor is like a good mechanic or a good farmer.
They all have their purposes. My mother almost died this past Friday. A
good private , family docotr had her in for emergency
procedure to replace a pace-maker that had ceased all functioning.
Nationalized health care would have put her on a wating list and I would be
at her funeral, today. Rather, she is home this am, after being released
from hospital last night.

I find you interesting and somewhat of a dual-personality. Sometimes you
have an 'independent,don't trust anyone,
go-live-alone-in-the-woods' spirit, and other times you seem to be deep into
and very dependent on 'the system'.

****** Of course I am dependent on the system, to some extent we all are.
That doesn't mean I m totally dependent on the government. The government is
not involved in my healthcare or my health decisions. The government is
involved in extorting monies from me, but so far they are not between me and
the docs.

I strive to wean myself from the system as much as possible. That is a
reason I converse with and question James as often as I do. I repect
everyone equally on this list and listen to all; but, James has actually been
very successful in becoming 'independent' of most of the 'system'. That is
rare as hell. I don't agree with james on many things; but, success
sometimes defines itself . In becoming independent, of gov't and the
consumeristic system, he 'is' accomplished. He 'is', relative to most that I
know, successful. So, I learn what I can, knowing that I will never lead the
kind of life he leads , or even the kind that you lead. Some of you think I
can't learn just 'part' of what you do, that I must do it all; I intend to
prove you all wrong :-)

"f-" the government; "f- consumeristic society", see; now I sound like a
pinko commie f*g hippie, too. I just need to find Khaki and navy color
tie-dye
