Hi Lynn,
The one near us actually closed almost a year ago, at the time they
told us the chain was really on the brink and they were buying time by
closing
some big losers. That manager never did tell his employees,
he left a note on the door when he closed up, they all saw it as they
arrived for work. Really classy, ehh?
Anyway, I certainly hope he is assigned something asap. Perhaps with the
holidays approaching and the stores hiring anyway, they could put him
someplace
for a month or so and permanently thereafter.

My sister in NE GA called met 8:00 this morning with bad news. Her husband
is losing his job as Gen Mgr of Up the Creek restaurant, in fact, the owner
is closing all the UtC restaurants in that area effective 12/15. He'd been
with the company for almost 7 years. They are nervously awaiting word to see
if he will be assigned an Applebee's store (a sister chain) effective 12/15
or shortly thereafter, or if it will take a month or longer to find a
position for him (a lapse in paychecks) or if he'll be out of a job
completely. The store employees do not yet know the store is closing. My
brother-in-law gets to give his employees pink slips and that alone makes
him feel like sh*t.

My sister told me not to tell anyone in our family, she doesn't want them to
worry until they know what will happen. My husband and I talked about it but
it wasn't enough. I wanted to tell you guys.

They found out two days ago. They've pulled their kids out of karate (2
boys, one girl - both boys take lessons) and they are going through this
while my brother-in-law's mom and sister are visiting. At least they all get
along.

Sooner or later I knew this economy would cause problems for my family one
way or another as it will to nearly everyone's. I'm looking for the silver
lining. They'll pull together and appreciate what they have and let go of
the rest, I guess.

2009 and 2010 are going to be memorable years.

Lisa
