Depends on the meat. Beef would be a real killer! Youngest (vegetarian for 5 years) started with turkey, then chicken, then pork. We don't raise beef, so we don't eat beef.

The whole veggie thing goes along with the recommendations we gave patients after major stomach/intestine surgeries. A lot of roughage will tear you apart, so start slow and eat small amount of things like celery, broccoli, beans, etc. Then the more you eat them the less trouble you have with them.

I've heard that long time vegetarians who decide to start
eating meat again have to start taking enzymes beforehand
to be able to digest meat again. I had a friend that ate
some hamburger after a couple of years of eating no meat
and had terrible gastrointestinal distress. I think
certain enzymes digest meat, and others digest plant, so
what Lynda is saying probably has to do with this.
