Ah, Drew's statement wouldn't be accurate. The facts are that there was a consortium which was comprised of USA, AP, CNN, NYT, Palm Beach Post, St. Petersburg Times, Tribune Newspapers, Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. The Miami Herald did their own. It was NOT a "full recount," but rather a recount of 64,000 undervotes and 110,000 overvotes.

Both the Consortium and the Miami Herald refused to release their results for months! Then they never did agree on the results. Both were questioned as to methodology and why they gave out conflicting stories. VERY conflicting stories since they conflicted with their own original stories!

This is the major reason I get Soooo tired of people chanting the mantra, "Bush stole the election!?? Bush stole the election!"

He didn't.?? Get over it!

The Miami Herald and USA today paid for a full recount after the fact,
counting every ballot and Bush won by a larger margin than originally thought.
But
if Gore's own state, the people who knew him best and had sent him to
Washington had voted for him, Florida would have been irrelevant. He was
grasping
for straws, needing Florida to win and didn't get it.\\
