You wrote "Does this tell you anything?".

No, it doesn't.  The silliness about MCain's citizenship is no less worthy of
well-read people than the silliness concerning Obama's citizenship.  Cindy
McCain abused pain meds, illegally.  According to his own words, Obama used
numerous drugs, illegally,  John McCain has never had a problem with any sort
of substance abuse.  The five million dollar comment was a joke, just as are
many things that both candidates say, and then used by the others against
them.

None of this BS matters, at all, about either of them.  By all indications
they are both decent people.  Obama is better credentialed, education wise;
McCain, life experience wise.

The one thing that Obama can't touch McCain on is character references.
McCain's references wear Medals of Honor, Silver Stars, and Purple Hearts.  I
don't know who a real character reference from Obama's past might be.  An
article that I read (I believe on Slate, during the primaries), said that his
college , law firm etc, friends and acquaintances have all been told to say
nothing.  I know that I've not read any in - depth  stories concerning them.

If, as I expect, McCain loses this election, he will still be written about
in history books, 50 years from now.  If Obama unexpectedly loses, he will be
a historical footnote, next year.  But, that is about personal character, a
pre-requisite for a decent leader, but not the deciding issue in times like
these.  Both men, I believe are of good character.

This country needs a real leader.  Obama and McCain both are being pushed
around by their professional handlers.  Allowed to be unrehearsed and using
their own unpolished personal demeanor might all ow us to get a better
picture of each man.  I know a bit of what an SOB McCain can be, because of
the state in which I live.  I don't have a clue as to the temperament  an
unrehearsed Obama.

The U.S. is no longer inching toward Socialism.  We are in a head-first dive.
Neither candidate has been brave enough to bring up this , most important.
fact.
Our personal freedoms and individual liberties are on the line .  This is the
most afraid I have been for this country in my life.  And, that fear has
nothing to do with any trivialities, like those "exposed" on
Snopes........................bobford

I'm way behind in discussing all the stuff we discuss here, but I've
been able to read a lot of it. The discussions about lying have been
particularly annoying. The following is what I put together to people
who send me the latest fabrication of Obama's hidden Muslim faith
(etc, etc, etc).  Since the morons who send this kind of stuff haven't
learned about BCCs, I can reply to most of their address book. I've
used this kind of public reply for years. I'm amazed that I still get
much of it.

*************************************

Before you send this kind of stuff out, at least check Snopes.

"50 Lies by Barack Obama":
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/50lies.asp

"Barack Obama is not a US citizen":
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/citizen.asp

"Obama is a Muslim": http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp

"Hugo Chavez is funding Obama's campaign":
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/chavez.asp

If you visit Snopes and type "Obama" into the search box, you'll get
at least 66 hits. At least 60 of those hits indicate that the
scurrilous comments are FALSE. Lies. Untruths. If John McCain can't
win fair and square, it seems that he's willing to use unethical
(might one say "immoral"?) tactics.

Try the same thing with the word "McCain" and you'll get 37 hits.
Surprisingly (Really? Does this surprise you?) most of them are TRUE.

E-mail lists facts about Senator John McCain's wife, Cindy McCain.
(true)

Article recounts details of Senator John McCain's divorce from his
first wife, Carol. (true)

E-mail describes the military pedigrees of Senator John McCain's sons.
(true)

Article by Karl Rove describes Senator John McCain. (undetermined)

Does John McCain not qualify as a natural-born citizen of the U.S.
because he was born in Panama? (undetermined)

Did John McCain once say that 'the Democratic Party is a fine party,
and I have no problems with it.' (true)

Did John McCain say he would define the income level that divides the
middle class from the rich as $5 million? (true)

The difference is that most of the reports circulating about John
McCain are true while most of the reports circulating about Barack
Obama are false.

Does this tell you anything?
