This, on Google:

_Black Walnut Toxicity_

Because decaying roots still release juglone, toxicity can persist for some
years ... Other trees closely related to black walnut also produce juglone,

My Dad designed a 'hillock' in the center of a circular driveway - purposely
because there was a black walnut right at the top of the rise.

He planted ivy as ground cover all 'round the tree. It flourished there,
even though nothing else would grow - not even weeds.

The little hill, and the ivy, and the tree, completely hid the house from
view of the street.
